It's time for another kidlit contest entry. This one is for KidLit Vibes hosted by the FRENZY FRIENDS. To participate you spin the Wheel of Feels to pick your word and write a 125 word story for ages 12 years or younger. I'll share my word at the end so you can see if you guessed the right vibe.
My inspiration came from a song that I was convinced the lyric was "Every time you go away, you take a piece of meat with you." It made sense, the person was going on a trip and might get hungry.
So without further ado, here is my KidLit Vibes entry.
Talent Show Slip-up
By Stephanie Maksymiw
Word count: 122
Today is the big talent show.
I stand off stage waiting.
My best friend finishes her magic trick.
She bows.
The audience stands and claps.
Now it's my turn.
I walk on stage.
The lights dim.
The spotlight shines down.
I clear my throat.
"Oh, Susannah
don't you cry for me.
I come from Alabama
with a bandage on my knee."
I bow…
Silence.
The spotlight turns off…
Crickets.
The lights brighten…
The audience stares.
I hear a whisper...
"isn't it a banjo?"
"No, the traveler has a boo-boo on their knee and needed a bandage!"
The audience erupts with giggles.
Then I hear one clap echoing through the auditorium.
Coming from one fan.
One exuberant fan.
My biggest fan.
Thanks Mom.
And my KidLit Vibes word is........
