Happy April Fool's Day! But it's not a joke, it's the Spring Fling Kidlit Contest! Last year my Spring (Hairball) Cleaning story received an honorable mention. This year I'm trying something different - rhyme!
The Missing Hour
By Stephanie Maksymiw
Every year, like clockwork,
an hour disappears.
Is it in the bushes?
Let’s get the pruning shears.
Look! We found a robin
with blue eggs in its nest.
But no missing hour.
I’ll find it, then I’ll rest.
The mornings are so dark.
Perhaps it moved away.
Is it at the North Pole?
Let’s hop into the sleigh.
Look! We found a reindeer.
And Santa’s over there.
I miss my lost hour,
but we won't find it here.
Days are getting longer
the more the hour’s gone.
Is it coming back home?
Let’s search first thing at dawn.
Look! We found the hour.
It took six months to find.
We get more time to sleep.
Tuck in and close the blind.
This is great! I miss that hour too ;) Best of luck in the contest.
