The story below is my submission for this year's Fall Writing Frenzy contest,. The contest was created by Kaitlyn Sanchez with guest judges Ameerah Holliday and Ebondy Mudd.
The story was inspired by one of the provided images for the contest. As soon as I saw this photo (by Benjamin Suter on Pexels.com), I was in love with the color of the sky and noticed that the plane and the birds were not headed in the same direction. I hope you enjoy this little story.
The Wrong Way?
By Stephanie Maksymiw
BONK!
“The sky is falling!” shouted Gaby.
“It’s a leaf. We go through this every year,” reassured Hugo. “Stop being such a chicken. We are the mighty geese, and we know…”
HONK HONK AHEM HONK HONK
"Yes?" wondered Hank.
“Isn’t it ducks that are mighty?” asked Gaby.
“Only when they play ice hockey,” answered Hugo. “As I was saying, we are the mighty geese, and we know a leaf is not the sky falling. It is the first sign of Winter. It’s time to start our journey to warmer climates with sandy beaches and tall palm trees.”
"I'll gather the supplies and the rest of the team," said Gaby.
"Don't forget the snacks!" reminded Hugo.
"We're all ready. Let's go!" cheered Gaby.

"That's it! Honk those horns and flap those wings. We'll be there in no time," added Hugo.
ZOOM!
“Look Gaby, a plane headed the wrong way to colder climates with snowy hills and ice-covered trees,” pointed out Hugo.
HONK HONK HA HA HA HONK HONK
"Silly humans," laughed Gaby.
